Sustainability is a documentary film dealing with global poverty, and the best practices for combating this epidemic in a helpful and sustainable way. Each year, global superpowers and non-profit organizations pour hundreds of millions of dollars into struggling third-world countries in the form of free food, medicine, and humanitarian programs. Yet despite the best of intentions, a growing body of evidence suggests that foreign aid efforts may be doing more harm than good. Local farmers cannot sell harvests when there’s so much cheap, donated food. Markets stagnate, and jobs wither away. Contributions are misappropriated by government officials for their own interests, instead of helping those who need it — all the while, countries in need become more and more reliant on such welfare with each passing year.
